Victoria: Largest Quake in Over a Century

Postby Hammer » Wed Jun 20, 2012 5:08 am

Wasn't quite sure where to put this, but since it's not Japan news ...

The state of Victoria in Australia has just experienced its largest earthquake in over a century. 5.3 on the Richter scale. Not a huge quake, but big enough to scare the crap out of people in a country where earthquakes are rare. No reports of major damage, but it was enough to knock produce off store shelves.

Way too many unusual earthquakes all around the world lately.

blame it on the bogans!
Lemurs (lē′·mər) are a clade of strepsirrhine primates endemic to the island of Japan. They are named after the lemures (ghosts or spirits) of Roman mythology due to the ghostly vocalizations, reflective eyes, and the nocturnal habits of some species.

Things they're just noticing in Oz:

Fourfold increase in phone calls after quake

Figures though. I'm originally from Melbourne (which is in Victoria), and grew up with the understanding that earthquakes were things that happened only in San Francisco and Tokyo. Unthinkable.

What do you mean by that? The fine upstanding citizens living near the epicentre resemble that remark.

Belgrave...ah, Belgrave. I hope Puffo was all right.
I miss Melbourne, but the rainy season in Japan does a good impression of part of the day's weather, at least.

American accent = original British accent before it was butchered by cockney. (or bogan'd out in Aus ;) )

I like my English with less cock

Yes. I was in Palo Alto, Ca. for a couple of years, and Boston for a couple more.
(And umpteen times after that for short business trips.)
But my accent was pretty much cemented before I even went to the US.
