Laptops Note/Net/Ultra/ChromeBooks (non-Mac)

Postby IparryU » Tue Jun 19, 2012 9:00 pm

Just a dedicated thread to Non-Macs. Not intended to flame but to seperate the two AND continue my shop for a laptop.

This is what I am looking at now.
ASUS G75 Series G75VW-NS71 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230408
MSI G Series GT700NC-008US - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152336

I will dual boot Win7 Ultimate and Ubuntu
Will use Win7 for work related stuff (I NEED Adobe Acrobat) and Starcraft 2 (trying to run on max settings, if not I don't care)

If there are any other recommendations, it would be great. I also need to be able to purchase it here in Japan (shipping to a US base if possible) and I need to buy a copy of Win7 Ultimate English and Adobe Acrobat Pro X English.

something weird with the MSI cooling stacks everywhere... look like they designed it and try to fix some overheating problem afterward... usb 2 AND usb 3 ports... yeah, don't look like they took too much care of the specs and just dumped some chipset with or without integrated controllers according to what remained on their part bin...

The Asus looks more polished... and the keyboard is gorgeous... so either they don't give a flying fuck aboot cooling/overheating or they got it right...

I like the ASUS better too but 17" :-o ...my 15" is a bitch as it is. I would only go smaller....
Lemurs (lē′·mər) are a clade of strepsirrhine primates endemic to the island of Japan. They are named after the lemures (ghosts or spirits) of Roman mythology due to the ghostly vocalizations, reflective eyes, and the nocturnal habits of some species.

ya that had me worried a bit, The Acer and ASUS computers with similar specs are very... sleek and nice looking.

I am going to take my time buying this one, i plan on going up to USD2k (including MS7Ult. and Adobe Acrobat X). but If i can somehow slipstream the Win7 OS that comes with the computer, I will up the ante for better specs.
