Softbank Smartphone Measures Radiation

Postby Hammer » Wed May 30, 2012 9:18 am

Softbank has just announced a new smartphone with a built-in radiation measurement function that is reported to be fairly accurate.

As I've stated ad-nauseum elsewhere, I think this is a very good trend. The democratization of basic gamma radiation measurement means it's harder for the government and companies like Tepco to fudge the figures, and it provides more data points for analysis.

But but but... damn name told us measuring radiation WAS A SCIENCE !!!!... that no mere mortal could understand... and that people will PANIC !!!!

(I think I found the reason of the high radiation in my office... It's the only place where I stand really close to the device when measuring... If I monitor the counter with a webcam and leave the room the value goes back to a normal level. I think my current dentist love affair with X-Rays might be of some influence.... this or I really have a strange metabolisation of cheezeburgers...)
