Cool...

But can't these be solved by software like Mathematica, etc.?

ok, I will write really slowly so you can conceptualise it:

Yeah, I can imagine that. The point I was trying to make is that it does not really make sense to use the ability to solve differential equations as a proof that you are human, because programs can do this stuff, including those used by spammers.

Except when the equation is a bad scan from a handwritten note... I don't see any character reco software being able to catch them... solve them... then post an answer (yes/no) in russian, since they don't ask for the solution but more IF the solution match or not some criteria...

OK, that changes the equation! Non-Russians may not apply, I guess?

Maybe I'm not seeing it: is there a "new posts" link here that will display all threads with new replies since one's last visit in one index (regardless of the sub forum it as posted in)? This is a very common feature and has become the default way to keep up with forums for many users.

If you're on the board index page (if not click "Board Index" at the top of the page), there should be a "View unread posts" link just above the top forum.

FWIW I tweaked the template of my own obscure forum ( http://japanforum.wordzr.com/ ) so the "new posts" and "active topics" links are always on the top menu bar. Makes life much easier. I can dig out the file(s) to change if you want.

Cool, thanks.
I might not be able to get to doing whatever is necessary immediately, but if the data is available (and easy to implement) I'd appreciate it.

Re: Posts per page.

Yes, 10 is kinda measly.

I've increased the number of posts displayed per page from the default 10 to 20. Let's play with that for a while and see how it sits.

Unfortunately there's no way for individual users to set their own post count without doing some under-the-hood modifications (and since I've just spent 4 hours updating the software and wrasslin' with a few ornery issues, that will have to wait).

ditto!

can you also make it to when you open a thread it goes to the last page rather than the first? I think this goes along with personalizing how you view threads... but It would be nice to have that option available.

Hammer,
I have no right to ask/suggest anything as I grateful for your efforts to keep us together.
But I would suggest applying for some sort of advertising to help fund your endeavors. Should you get some ads on site, I will try to use whatever services you're plugging to help support it.

Yes, sneaky. You have to actually look at it.

Go to your User Control Panel -> Board Preferences, and there should be an option for "Pop-up window on new private message". I haven't tried it, but it's there. So you first ...

What about a Trips Around Japan forum?

Postby cellis » Wed Jun 20, 2012 8:30 pm

We get out all over the place hiking and camping and just touristing and it's always fun to take pics and see others pics of trips they do, especially in Japan. Anybody else think that's a good idea? Go on a trip, post up a thread, with pics and a story. Something like that..

(I'd really like an outdoors forum too because they are hard to find for Japan in the 英語 but won't push my luck lol.)
